open access e-book: Assessment and Feedback in Higher Education

Assessment and Feedback in Higher Education: a guide for teachres / Teresa McConlogue. UCL Press, 2020.

"Teachers spend much of their time on assessment, yet many higher education educators have received minimal guidance on assessment design and marking. This means assessment can often be a source of stress and frustration. Assessment and Feedback in Higher Education aims to solve these problems. Offering a concise overview of assessment theory and practice, this guide provides teachers with the help they need. In education, theory and practice are often poorly linked. In this guide, Teresa McConlogue presents theoretical ideas and research findings and links them to practice. She considers recent theoretical work on feedback and suggests ways of developing evaluative judgement. Throughout the book, teachers are encouraged to examine their practice critically, and there are ideas for small-scale educational investigations, involving teachers, their colleagues and students, such as using the Assessment Review Questionnaire to adapt assessments. A key principle of Assessment and Feedback in Higher Education is that an understanding of academic standards is fundamental to good assessment design and more reliable marking. The guide explores the concept of academic standards and proposes methods of co-constructing shared standards within a teaching team and with students through calibration activities."

Transforming International Cooperation: thoughts and Perspectives on Moving Beyond Aid

Transforming International Cooperation: thoughts and Perspectives on Moving Beyond Aid / Juliane Kolsdorf, Ulrich Müller (Ed.). Nomos, 2020.

"The world of international cooperation is in transition. Global power shifts and the rise of populism have made the world multipolar, but not necessarily more multilateral. The traditional North–South aid system is being called into question, while transnational challenges are affecting all countries and require stronger global partnerships. In this context, the graduation of countries from Official Development Assistance (ODA) stands out as a focal topic in connecting current debates.Facilitated by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), this publication sees experts from various sectors and regions share and exchange their views in open dialogues and spotlight texts. They embed ODA graduation in its broader global context, discuss its implications and call for a new partnership based on global goals and knowledge sharing. This collection of thoughts and perspectives will thus hopefully serve as a milestone in the debate on transforming international cooperation."

Poverty and the Impact of COVID-19: The Blue Marble Health Approach

Poverty and the Impact of COVID-19: The Blue-Marble Health Approach / Peter J. Hotez. Johns Hopkins University Press, 2020.

"While COVID-19 has ravaged global economies and changed the way of life for us all, the disease has a disproportionately devastating impact on poorer communities. For the millions without a job because of community shut downs, decisions about basic necessities and the fear of healthcare costs for those diagnosed with the novel coronavirus become critical. In these uncertain times, international diplomacy, solidarity, and cooperation are vital. Dr. Peter Hotez, dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, provides an essential look at the global issue of health and poverty through the lens of COVID-19. He introduces a new global paradigm known as "blue marble health," through which he asserts that poor people living in wealthy countries account for most of the world's poverty-related illness. He explores the current state of neglected diseases in both China and the United States. By crafting public policy and relying on global partnerships to control or eliminate some of the world's worst poverty-related illnesses, Hotez believes, it is possible to eliminate life-threatening disease while at the same time creating unprecedented opportunities for science and diplomacy. Urgent, timely, and compassionate, this excerpted edition of Hotez's wide-sweeping Blue Marble Health serves as a timely guide for anyone committed to helping the millions of people who are facing the visceral threats of both poverty and COVID-19."

Spotlight on adolescent health and well-being

Spotlight on adolescent health and well-being. Findings from the 2017/2018 Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) survey in Europe and Canada. International report / Jo Inchley, Dorothy Currie, Sanja Budisavljevic, Torbjørn Torsheim, Atle Jåstad, Alina Cosma, Colette Kelly, Ársæll Már Arnarsson, Vivian Barnekow and Martin M. Weber. World Health Organization, 2020.
-vol.1: Key findings
-vol.2: Key data

"Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC), a WHO collaborative cross-national study, has provided information about the health, well-being, social environment and health behaviour of 11-, 13- and 15-year-old boys and girls for over 30 years. The 2017/2018 survey collected data from over 220 000 young people in 45 countries and regions in Europe and Canada. The data focus on social context (relations with family, peers, school and online communication), health outcomes (subjective health, mental health, overweight and obesity, and injuries), health behaviours (patterns of eating, physical activity and toothbrushing) and risk behaviours (use of tobacco, alcohol and cannabis, sexual behaviour, fighting and bullying) relevant to young people’s health and well-being. New items on family meals, electronic media communication and cyberbullying were introduced to the HBSC survey in 2017/2018 and measures of individual health complaints and underweight are also included for the first time in this report. Volume 1 of the international report presents key findings from the 2017/2018 survey, and Volume 2 provides key data disaggregated by country/region, age, gender and family affluence."

Iedereen Terug Aan Boord: krachtig Relancebeleid Voor Een Vitale En Inclusieve Arbeidsmarkt

Iedereen Terug Aan Boord: krachtig Relancebeleid Voor Een Vitale En Inclusieve Arbeidsmarkt / SERV, 2020.
