"In many industrialized countries, there is a sharp increase of the aging population due to a decrease in fertility rate and an increase in life expectancy. Due to which, the age dependency ratio rises and may cause increased economic burden among working age population. One strategy to combat this problem is to prolong peoples working career. A sufficient work ability is a requirement for a sustainable and prolonged employment. Work ability is primarily a question of balance between work and personal resources. Personal resources change with age, whereas work demands may not change parallel to that, or only change due to globalization or new technology. Work ability, on average, decreases with age, although several different work ability pathways exist during the life course. Work-related factors, as well as general lifestyle, may explain the declines and improvements in work ability during aging. A sustainable work ability throughout the life course is a main incentive for a prolonged working career and a healthy aging. Work ability and work-related factors, are therefore important occupational and public health issues when the age of the population increases. This Special Issue, “Sustainable Work Ability and Aging”, includes in all 16 original articles and one opinion paper, organized in three sections."

Wie BNE in Einrichtungen wie Kommunen strukturell verankert werden kann, zeigen die Autorinnen anhand von systematischen Überlegungen und Praxisbeispielen.

Am Beispiel von Bildungsmaterialien zum Klimawandel zeigt die Autorin, dass es Unterstützung für die Einschätzung gibt und dass es hilfreich ist, auf die Lizenzierung zu achten.

"There is agency in all we do: thinking, doing, or making. We invent a tune, play, or use it to celebrate an occasion. Or we make a conceptual leap and ask more abstract questions about the conditions for agency. They include autonomy and self-appraisal, each contested by arguments immersing us in circumstances we don’t control. But can it be true we that have no personal responsibility for all we think and do?

Agency: Moral Identity and Free Will proposes that deliberation, choice, and free will emerged within the evolutionary history of animals with a physical advantage: organisms having cell walls or exoskeletons had an internal space within which to protect themselves from external threats or encounters. This defense was both structural and active: such organisms could ignore intrusions or inhibit risky behavior. Their capacities evolved with time: inhibition became the power to deliberate and choose the manner of one’s responses. Hence the ability of humans and some other animals to determine their reactions to problematic situations or to information that alters values and choices. This is free will as a material power, not as the conclusion to a conceptual argument. Having it makes us morally responsible for much we do. It prefigures moral identity.

Closely argued but plainly written, Agency: Moral Identity and Free Will speaks for autonomy and responsibility when both are eclipsed by ideas that embed us in history or tradition. Our sense of moral choice and freedom is accurate. We are not altogether the creatures of our circumstances."

"Ruim een kwart (27%) van de Nederlandse inwoners ervaart discriminatie. Dit is vergelijkbaar met vijf jaar geleden. Opvallend is de groei in de mate van ervaren discriminatie in het onderwijs. Het gaat hier bovendien relatief vaak om ernstige vormen van discriminatie, zoals geweld, bedreiging of seksueel lastig vallen. De gevolgen van ervaren discriminatie zijn groot: mensen kunnen zich terugtrekken uit de samenleving, het vertrouwen verliezen in instituties of afhaken als het om onderwijs of werk zoeken gaat. Een inclusieve samenleving is daarmee nog ver weg."
